Student Health Insurance
Becoming a student you may continue your health insurance. Some people stay under the health insurance of their parents. But as you will probably move to another city, it’s to think how to cover health insurance needs for students. So there are several available options.
You may stay on your parents’ insurance plan. Their health insurance would cover your health insurance needs while you are studying at college. Most plans have this option for 19-25-year-old. In this case your parents simply have to check it with the agent in order to make sure your needs would be covered.
Another option is COBRA’s help. It may cover the insurance needs that your parents have for you. There are people aged more than 25 who attend college and those who do not get higher education after 18. Such people usually lose the coverage of their health insurance carried by their parents. Utilize COBRA, and the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act will continue the coverage, though temporarily. Your parents have to check it with the agent as well.
Are you planning to start working soon? You may use the option of short0term coverage then. As you will soon have insurance through a job, short-time coverage becomes quite affordable. To keep the low cost, try to find a high deductible.
Individual plan offers a permanent coverage of the health insurance. This plan is for those who cannot stay on parents’ policy. Before choosing this option, try to get a group health care from the employer. Individual plan is usually more expensive. To qualify you’ll need some medical testing.
No matter what option you choose look for affordable premium.
